If you’re a thrash-head, you’ll probably know that this glorious movement was built mainly upon four infernal pillars – the Bay Area scene, the East Coast scene, the Teutonic (or German) scene, and, finally, the Brazilian scene.

And while the two US scenes provided the initial kick and the Teutonic scene wasn’t all that surprising given that Germany had already a reputable metal tradition at the time, the Brazilian scene ends up being the most peculiar of the bunch.

Not only did it fully develop at the time when the remaining three were already going strong, but it also mainly consisted of musicians with very small budgets who only had dedication, love for the genre, and the humble patronage of Cogumelo Records to their name. Of these, only Sepultura ended up with significant international acclaim, but the Brazilian scene with its plethora of iconic albums and bands remains highly influential on the whole. But who are these bands, and what were these highly influential albums? Let’s find out.

As always, you’re more than welcome to add to this list by suggesting more amazing Brazilian thrash metal bands and albums in the comments below.
